Untold facts of IAAS central library

When you hear about library, you might imagine about books, journals, magazines, study tables, chairs and so on. IAAS central library is not an exception but it’s much more than that.

IAAS library is a library with racks full of books and journals. When you want to issue a book from issue section of the library you are never going to get it. You have to consider yourself lucky if you find a book that you are looking for. You might not find the page you are looking for in that book since some books with ‘lost’ pages are also available in the library. Almost all the books in the library were published decades ago. Books kept in book racks are covered by dust and some books are being eaten by silverfish. 

The Kantipur daily and The Gorkhapatra daily are the only newspapers available in the library. Students are barred from reading these newspapers. These newspapers are available only for lecturers and bureaucrats to read. I have not seen any weekly, quarterly and monthly magazines in the library. Let’s not talk about reading them if it’s available.

On the second floor of the library sofas are arranged for the library users to study. It’s widely being abused by the students. Some students found making it as bed for sleeping. Some students are found sleeping on the lap of the other. If a person for the first time goes there he might be in dilemma whether it’s really a library or not.

‘Study corners’ are also made in the library. It’s for those students who want to study without being disturbed or being unnoticed from others. The writings and drawings on the walls of the study corners clearly denote its use. Nude picture drawn on the walls and vulgar words written there proves that it’s being abused. Many students and bureaucrats suspects unholy activities taking place there.

College administration, library administration and FSU turn deaf ear towards these things. A number of guests come to visit IAAS library; if they see this than what message will it deliver?

What After B.Sc. Ag graduation?

After graduation in Ag. many students are in dilemma what to do further. The options given below might help to get through the dilemma.

GRE Preparation

For those students who want to study in USA GRE preparation is must. Those who dream of being in USA for gaining further education along with earning money and leading pleasant life. It’s always easy to dream but it’s not so easy in obtaining good score in GRE examination. Higher the GRE scores higher will be the chances to get scholarship in renowned college.

NGO/ INGO 

Doing job in NGO/ INGO's remained as the top option among those Ag. graduates who want to do job after graduation. The lofty sum of money paid as salary, international recognition and boundless opportunities are the reasons for luring graduates to work in NGO/INGOs.

Public Service Commission

Those graduates who want to serve the nation by working as technocrats should eagerly wait for PSC examination. Passing in fiercely competitive and tough PSC exam is not a joke, but Ag graduates have relative advantage in comparison to general candidates in passing PSC examination. 

Indian Embassy Scholarship

Scholarship quotas are offered by Indian Government to Nepalese Agriculture graduate students to complete their Post Graduate Program in India is a big opportunity.

Israel

 Many IAAS graduate used to go to Israel for a year to work. Now the no. of students going to Israel is declining rapidly.  One can earn few LAKHS in Israel but working there as a layman and high temperature are its limitations.

STARTING AGROENTERPRISE

 The target of B.Sc. Ag. Curriculum is to produce agro entrepreneur.  Though its a best idea to start agro enterprise, many think it as a business of high risk and they never bother to take that risk. It needs strong determination, hard work, knowledge, skill and capital to be a good entrepreneur. Its worth to get a job but it worth thousand times more to create a job. Then, why not starting agro enterprise?

Is IAAS for agriculture or politics?

IAAS formerly renowned for agricultural manpower production is now gaining notoriety for political clashes.

The series of clashes between student wings of different political parties have defamed the college. There is not even a single year in the history of IAAS that passed without any clashes between the students.

FSU election and entrance examination time are on season for such clashes. Because of the news about frequent clashes in mass media public have developed negative view about the one and only agricultural institute.

Politicization of students, teachers and bureaucrats is beyond ones imagination. Here in IAAS even a lab boy refuses to do what the teacher tell him to do if the teacher does not have the faith in the same political party he has.

Actually politics isn't dirty game but the players at IAAS are dirty. In reality the politics in IAAS is guided by a mob which has many heads but no brain and its very dangerous. When will be that heads be filled with brain?

The 'room politics' and 'politics of power' exercised here made the situation worst. If the commoners heard something about IAAS in recent days then they might have heard about political clashes but not about god things going in the campus.

The students union seems worthless here. It seems as if they are made to shed blood. Where is their creativity? Where is their work for which they are assigned?

Politics can run without IAAS but not IAAS without politics. It has produced a number of political leaders like Prachanda and so on, but I am really unable to give the name of such agriculturist produced by IAAS and has done significant work. Why is it so? Is IAAS really producing politicians instead of agriculturist? Really the time has come for us to think. Agriculture college should produce agriculturist not the political leaders.
